M Countdown Episode 897
Mnet’s M Countdown (Episode 897) started off the early weekend, Thursday, with one of the best music shows due to the amount and quality of performances there were. Also, for 2025, Wednesday’s music show must be the end, since groups like H1-KEY and RESCENE were on there but not on M Count. But some groups have been performing all week.
First, Baby DONT Cry (BDC) continued their debut promotions and performed “F Girl”. Yihyun, the leader, shined the most due to her musicality and stage presence, and her outfit of a pink sweater. Also, she was one of four final ending fairies, giving us a wave and a shared heart. Also, after not performing on Tuesday and Wednesday, this will be another week where they performed on all music shows of the week. They even got to do a special visual cam video.
Next, ifeye performed their comeback “r u ok?” This is their first performance on a music show after having a showcase on Monday. Won Hwayeon, the vocalist, stood out due to her strawberry pink hair and stage presence. This group proves there’s a new dynamic in 2025 where groups will drop music on Monday, and then perform on M Countdown as their first.
Then, HITGS continued their comeback and performed their song “CHARIZZMA”. VV, the only Chinese member, stood out for her outfit of black pants and her stage presence. She also has really long hair, whereas in the music video she has a bob cut. This is their second week of promotions so they have always started the week on M Count, other than their comeback showcase. But I won’t be too tough on them since they’ve had three song releases in the past three months, which is insanely fast and only gives them a break off in between releases.
Next, Purple Kiss performed their comeback “DOREMI”. They also dropped music on Monday but this is the first time performing on a music show. Yuki, the only Japanese member, stood out for her stage presence and singing ability, especially since she’s the group's rapper. Maybe this new style of 2025, where music is dropped on Monday, but not performed until Thursday’s M Count will help groups like Purple Kiss extend and let nugu groups songs chart better.
Finally, ILLIT performed their B-side “jellyous” for the second week of promotions. A clip of them practicing singing this song while running on treadmills went viral. Also, the choreo is insane. Moka, one of the Japanese members, shined more since she seemed to be suffering the most. Turns out she has asthma and must manage it as an idol. Also, she got the first ending fairy but looked exhausted and just pumped her fist while taking deep breaths.
