M Countdown Episode 895
Mnet’s M Countdown (Episode 895; shortened to M Count) started off the early weekend, Thursday, with one of the best shows of the year based on quantity and quality of the groups that performed. There seems to be a changed strategy where famous and semi-famous groups will drop music on Monday, skip Tuesday and Wednesday, start on Thursday’s music show and maybe finish up on Tuesday or Wednesday at the end of their promotions. This has made this music show, M Count, the most important music appetizer on the menu.
First, Baby DONT Cry continued their debut promotions for the second week, and performed their debut title track “F Girl”. They’re one of the groups that debuted, dropped music last Monday, but have never performed on Tuesday’s or Wednesday’s music shows. However, in the past four music shows and today’s show, M Count, Yihyun, the leader, stood out. She stood out for wearing a pink top, they used her pic as the thumbnail, and she was the last ending fairy, giving us a two hand heart by her left cheek, while simultaneously tilting her head, and sticking her tongue out just a bit.
Next, aespa performed their comeback “Dirty Work”. Aespa was another one of the groups that dropped their comeback track on Monday but didn’t start performing until today, Thursday. All the members, Karina, Giselle, Ning Ning, and Winter, stood out. They got an intro to their performance, an interview, all are on the thumbnail, and all got an ending fairy. And all members are all over the secondary M Count channel, M2 (MnetM2).
Then, in a surprising move, LE SSERAFIM performed an English version of their Japanese track “DIFFERENT”. All members, Sakura, Chaewon, Yunjin, Eunchae, and Kazuha, stood out. They all got to do an interview too. But Kazuha stood out a bit more, since they used her pic as the thumbnail, and she got the final ending fairy, giving us a simple blue steel stare. It’s possible that Hybe’s strategy is to also allow their groups to perform their Japanese tracks on K music shows. Their younger sisters in HYBE, ILLIT, did this with “Almond Chocolate (Korean version)” a Japanese track while LE SSERAFIM was promoting “EASY”.
Next, speaking of ILLIT, they continued their comeback promotions with “Do the Dance”. Yunah, their leader, stood out due to her having no accessories in her hair and her hair not being tied up. She also got the second to last ending fairy, giving a double cat paws by her cheeks and then cat ears. It’s an interesting strategy by HYBE to promote Japanese songs (but English and Korean versions) on K music shows.
Then, fromis_9, the five member version, continued their comeback and performed “LIKE YOU BETTER”. This is another group that dropped music last Monday, but haven’t performed on Tuesday’s or Wednesday’s music show. So, for their second week of promotions, Chaeyoung again stood out with her platinum blonde hair and white cowgirl boots. Also, Chaeyoung seemed to have a problem with her mike attached to her ear. But she dealt with it like a pro, and held it in place while dancing too. Her experience on IDOL SCHOOL shined through.
Next, H1-KEY continued their comeback and performed “Summer was you”. H1-KEY went the traditional route and have performed on every music show since dropping music last Monday. I want to give kudos to them and all members stood out in this performance. Seoi, the leader, and Yel, the maknae stood out a bit more. But Hwiseo and Riina, who were both on Queendom Puzzle, also stood out on their parts. A truly top notch performance by H1-KEY.
Finally, Rescene started their comeback promotions and performed “Deja Vu”. Rescene dropped music on Monday but didn’t start promotions until today. Minami, the only Japanese member, stood out for her musicality and stage presence. Her experience on the survival show “MTG” helped her shine here.
